Susan was the beloved wife of David Griffith and the loving mother of Charles Jacobs (married to Stephanie) and Ashley Cosgrove (married to Casey). She adored her grandsons, Brennen and Mason Cosgrove, and held a special place in her heart for her numerous step-grandchildren. She was the devoted daughter of Dorris Dehoff and the caring sister to Lynda Longer (married to Larry) and Tom Dehoff (married to Jill). Her life was further enriched by the love of her nephews Cameron Longer, Brandon Longer (married to Caroline), Joseph Dehoff, niece Dawn Pierce (married to Chris), and many great-nieces and nephews. Susan's presence was a gift to her family, one that will continue to shine through generations. She was preceded in death by her father, 'Joe' Dehoff, whose memory she held dear.
Susan's passion for education was evident to all who knew her. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Sam Houston State University and dedicated her life to nurturing young minds. As a beloved teacher, she received numerous awards and honors, a testament to her exceptional dedication to her students. Her commitment to her faith was equally profound, as she lovingly organized and ran the nursery at her church for many years, serving as a faithful servant to the Lord.
Those who worked with Susan knew her as an outstanding partner teacher and a faithful friend. Her headstrong nature made her a dependable and passionate advocate for her beliefs, and her tenacity in the face of challenges was nothing short of inspirational. Despite retiring from her formal teaching role, Susan's love for education was so deep-rooted that she continued to teach for an additional seven years, touching the lives of countless individuals with her wisdom and compassion.
Susan's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She found joy in fishing and cherished the moments spent traveling with her family. Known for her quick wit and intelligence, she could effortlessly complete crossword puzzles in ink, a testament to her sharp mind. Her readiness to help others was known throughout her community, and her love for her family was unparalleled.
Susan's home was the Texas Hill Country, a place where her soul felt at peace. Her faith never wavered, and she worshiped the Lord until her final days, embodying the words of the well-known hymn, 'Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.' Her faithfilled life, courageous spirit, and selfless nature are the hallmarks of her legacy.
Even in her battle against cancer, Susan's fighting spirit never dimmed. For four long years, she faced the disease with the same tenacity that she approached all of life's challenges. Her often- repeated phrase, 'I'll Do It Myself,' encapsulated her independence and determination, traits that served her well throughout her life and during her illness.
As we bid farewell to Susan Y. Griffith, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. Her memory will continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us of the strength of faith, the importance of education, and the enduring power of a loving family. Susan's story is not one of an ending, but a continuing legacy that will ripple through the lives she touched for years to come.
The family will be holding a graveside service on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Griffith Cemetery in Smiley, Texas beginning at 11:00 AM.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at Lutie Watkins Memorial methodist Church beginning at 11:00 AM.
