Donald Wade Black
Donald Wade Black

He was born on July 5, 1947, in Mason, TX, to the late Wade Edward and Topsy Mildred (Johnson) Black. Donald was the devoted husband of Rebecca Ann (Moran) Black.
A proud U. S. Marine Corps veteran, Donald served during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he began his law enforcement career as a city police officer in San Angelo, eventually rising eventually rising to the rank of detective. He later joined the U.S. Border Patrol as a Special Agent, focusing on anti-smuggling operations. His work took him across the country, including posts in Oklahoma City, Indiana, Laredo, and finally Austin, where he retired in 1997.
Even in retirement, Donald remained dedicated to service. He honored fellow veterans by placing flags at cemeteries throughout Texas and, alongside his wife Becky, spent sixteen years ministering through the Bridges to Life program, helping families of violent crime victims share their stories in prison outreach. He also took great joy in caring for his church grounds, creating detailed stained-glass pieces, and tending to his beloved dogs, chickens and goats.
Donald was known for his boundless energy, generous spirit, and readiness to help others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and creativity that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Becky; daughter Leslie Black Salazar and her husband David of Kyle; son Jason Black and his wife Julia of Kyle; brother Scott Black and his wife Linda of Menard, TX; brothers-in-law Robert Moran (Cynthia) of Kerrville, Thomas Moran of Colorado, and Daniel Moran (Janet) of Brady; sisters-in-law Brenda Black of Hext and Helen Dockal (Tim) of Mason. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren— Sammy, Ryan, Alex, and Hannah Salazar; Cody Black; Jazmin Wilson; and Charlie Black—along with nine great-grandsons and many beloved nieces and nephews.
