JOANNE FINCH (1934-2026)
JOANNE FINCH (1934-2026)

JoAnne was the youngest child with older siblings Barbara Mortimer, EJ Nowotny, Helen Jones and Joyce Dean Armke. JoAnne was pre-deceased by her parents and siblings, Barbara, EJ and Joyce Dean, and her son Benny Finch and grandson Cody Finch.
JoAnne married Roy D. Finch on Feb. 25, 1951 and they were married 75 years. Her loving family included: Husband - Roy D Finch Children - Benny (Cathy) Finch - Shari Finch Vicki Finch (Darrell Scheidt) - Jeremiah and Matthew Johnson Joe (Shari) Finch - Tell, Wyatt, and Cody Finch. Also 16 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.
JoAnne was a Daddy’s girl and she loved going to school at Johnson City ISD. Her big sister Barbara liked to take care of her and style her hair. She loved her school activities and her many friends. She was very popular in high school – a cheerleader, a forward on the basketball team and FFA Sweetheart are a few of her honors. It was after a basketball game that she met her future husband, Roy Finch, from Blanco.
She was a God fearing, strong, fiercely independent and private woman. She loved being home and taking care of her family. She enjoyed decorating her immaculately maintained home, gardening - both flowers and vegetables. She was an accomplished seamstress, making most of her and Vicki’s clothing. She was a wonderful cook. Anyone that “just happened” to be there at dinner time, was invited to eat with them. This included her grandsons - often! She always said “it’s not much, but there’s plenty of it.” She made her plate, after everyone else was served.
She was baptized at the Blanco Church of Christ when she was a young woman and attended weekly until her health would no longer permit. She was a devoted mother who taught her children to love God, Jesus, and each other and watched each of them be baptized into Christ. She taught them to have a strong work ethic and integrity. She helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also prepared many, many meals for grieving families.
Once all her children were grown, she went to work at Blanco ISD, working in the cafeteria. She genuinely loved being with the ladies and providing delicious meals for all of the students, several of them were her grandchildren. Once neuropathy developed in her feet, she had to quit. Philip Strickland, at Strickland Drugs, asked her to drive his truck to Johnson City every day and home deliver prescriptions to his customers. This gave her an opportunity to reconnect with her friends from childhood. She loved checking in and visiting with all her friends.
When she and Roy both retired, they spent many hours sitting on their back porch watching the wildlife- deer and birds, her favorite were cardinals.
JoAnne will be laid to rest in the Rocky Creek Cemetery with her grandparents, her sister, and beside her son Benny.
