Marijane Denham Steelman
Marijane Denham Steelman Marijane Denham Steelman, 69, of Llano, Texas, devoted wife, mother and nurse was called home for eternity by her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2026. Marijane was born in Escondido, CA on March 16, 1957, to Joe and Velma Denham. She graduated from Ramona High School and in 1979 enlisted into the United States Army. After basic training, she was assigned as a records clerk. Based on her abilities, hard work and determination she quickly promoted to Master Sergeant as a non-commissioned Retention Officer. From there she was the acting Sergeant Major of Re-enlistment for the 1st Cavalry at Ft. Hood, Texas until her retirement on September 30, 2000, with a total of 21 years of active service. During her military career she met a young soldier named Michael Steelman, who would be her soulmate for the next 43 years. The two were married in 1983 and upon their retirement from the Army they moved to Llano, Texas. Retirement was not for Marijane as she embarked on a long desire to be a nurse like Jennie Belle, her sister. Marijane graduated from Central Texas College of Nursing in 2006, continuing her education until she received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree. Marijane, an RN, worked at Llano Hospital in the Emergency Room and at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital ICU for several years prior to becoming the school nurse for the Llano Elementary School in Llano. As much as Marijane found her rewards and pleasure in helping others at the hospital, none gave her any greater pleasure than being “Nurse Marijane” with the kids of Llano. She was more than just the school nurse, as this was her ministry for her Lord. She retired as the school nurse at the end of the 2025 school year. Once again, retirement was not for her as she became deeply involved in Megan’s barrel racing, tending to horses and loving the people of the rodeo circuit. Marijane was a very talented seamstress, and made most of Megan’s racing outfits. She was a member of the Llano Cowboy Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Kingsland. Marijane was preceded in death by her parents and sister Jennie Belle. She is survived by her husband Michael, sons Matthew and Marcus, Grandchildren Tyler and Megan, Brothers Joe, Jody and older sister Valdeen. Marijane was a patriot, highly esteemed and virtuous woman who served her nation, community, family and all those she nursed. Most of all, she served her Lord with a servant’s heart and humility. She was a great example for all young ladies, and she will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services for Marrijane will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at the Llano Cowboy Church. Military Honors and graveside services will be held at the Llano City Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Services for Marrijane have been entrusted to Joe and Amy Denham Licensed Funeral Directors for the Steelman and Denham families.
