David Lang

David Lang
David was a quiet place to land, having patience, time and comfort for us all. Those fortunate to know him knew of his quiet strength, offering love without condition, compassion without limit. His presence was a steady light and his love for all of us will be felt for a lifetime beyond his own.
David was a faithful servant of God, a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Castell, TX. He shared many milestones with his church family celebrating their joys and sorrows.
David was proud to have worked 20+ years for the Llano County Road and Bridge Department and was proud to have accomplished a job well done. Gail often received many hours of discussions on how to pave/ repair/improve roads (not one of our more thrilling conversations). There wasn’t a tire track in Llano County he didn’t know and seldom got out of his pickup without studying the ground. His ability to memorize license plates was amazing. An outstanding mathematician, often receiving phone calls from grands and greats to help with homework. David had a ‘black book’ when we were married and each year another was added. Any time we couldn’t remember when something was done, check one of his books and find the answer. He enjoyed deer hunting, sausage making and having a full freezer of meat {Langs might not have money but man did we eat well}. He was an excellent outdoor cook, making some of the best BBQ in Llano County and beyond. David also couldn’t pass a ‘bargain’. The expression ‘too good to be true’ fell on deaf ears with him, and he seldom was a a winner on his bargain purchase.
David loved the beauty, goodness and people in this great land and always had a bucket list of places he wanted to see. He and Gail were fortunate to travel to many of our great states.
David enjoyed 44 years with his wife, Gail, a partnership filled with devotion, laughter, joy, sadness and unwavering support. A shining example of love’s enduring power.
David was preceded in death by; his parents Henry and Geraldine Lang, in-laws Norman and Julia Holtzer, sister-in-law Sondra Holtzer, niece Felicia Vasquez, and nephew Robert Pairett.
He is survived by wife Gail (Holtzer); sons Michael Wennes, John Wennes; brothers Clinton Lang (Cynthia), Victor Lang, sister Jan Grey (Hal), sister-in-law Nelda Bludea; grandchildren Kristen Funkhauser (Jonathon), Clayton Wennes (Sabrina), Tyler Wennes; great Grandchildren Dillon, Logon, and Allisen Funkkhauser. In addition to them, there was a wide and cherished family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. May they carry his memory in their hearts of his love, tenderness and loyalty.
A Celebration of life will be held January 16, 2026 at 11am with luncheon to follow. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Castell or the Llano Food Pantry.
