Kathy Lumpkins Grendahl

Kathy Lumpkins Grendahl

Kathy Lumpkins Grendahl Kathy Lumpkins Grendahl, age 75, of Mason, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, at home surrounded by family. She was born on February 27, 1950, in Bandera, Texas, to Billy and Jessie (Leifeste) Lumpkins.

Raised in Mason, she graduated from Mason High School in 1968. She grew up as an active member of the Mason Gospel Church, where her strong faith and love for serving others took her on mission trips as far as Del Rio. Her beautiful singing voice touched many lives—whether she was performing at weddings, funerals, church services, or simply singing along to her favorite songs at home.

After graduating from Angelo State University in 1982, with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, she began her teaching career in Ozona, Texas, where she taught self-contained special education classes. Her love for her family soon brought her back home to Mason in 1994, where she helped care for her parents and began teaching in Junction, Texas. There, she dedicated her career to serving students with special needs, teaching everyone from early childhood through high school life skills classes.

She was passionate about her students, always seeing their potential and encouraging them to find purpose and confidence in their abilities. She loved taking her students to Special Olympics events and continued supporting them even after retirement— often accompanying them to competitions and cheering them on long after they left her classroom. She was also active in ATPE, serving as treasurer of the local Junction ISD chapter from 1999 till present.

She was a woman of incredible heart—loving, kind, funny, and selfless. Her family, friends, and students all knew her as someone who could be counted on for support, laughter, and a little good-natured mischief. She loved playing dominoes and cards, had a wonderful sense of humor, and especially enjoyed playing pranks on her smoking friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacey (Richard) Potts; her grandchildren, Devin Grendahl , Cameron Palacio-Grendahl, Jacob Potts , and Olivia Potts; and her great-grandchildren, Jayden, Evelyn, Oaklei, and Liam. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Rolly and Gloria Lumpkins of Mason; and her brotherin- law, Carl Jay Hutchins of Brady.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Jessie (Leifeste) Lumpkins, and her sister, Beverly Joy Hutchins.

She was an amazing sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend—an educator who gave her all, a singer whose voice brightened every room, and a woman whose legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in every life she touched.

A celebration of her life and luncheon will be held November 8, 2025, 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Mason Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Special Olympics Texas or to Breast Cancer Awareness in her memory.
