LARRY WAYNE COWLES (1946-2025)

LARRY WAYNE COWLES (1946-2025)

Larry Cowles passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2025 in Blanco. Services will be held in Blanco Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.

Larry Wayne Cowles was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Quanah, Texas to Foy Alva and Winnie Noleen Cowles of Austin. Larry was raised in Temple, and moved to Houston when he was in the third grade. He graduated of Jesse Jones High School in Houston in 1964. He attended Lamar University for three years before serving as an Army MP in Germany for three years. He then came back to Texas and graduated from Lamar University in 1972. Larry worked as a scout executive for the Boy Scouts of America, as a part-time usher for UT at the football stadium and Erwin Center, and as a claims adjuster for several insurance companies and state agencies until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed his retirement volunteering at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg.

Larry married his sweetheart, Lana, in 1968, and they embarked on many camping adventures with their family, visiting 48 of the 50 U.S. states. He loved gardening, watching the sunset and listening to the wildlife, especially on the porch of their home in Blanco, where he and Lana settled in 2015. If you were to go looking for Larry and Lana, you could always find them at one of their grandkid’s sporting events, which they loved attending!

Larry is survived by his wife Lana Cowles of Blanco; daughter Leanne and husband Jeremy Marty of Austin; daughter-in-law Melissa Cowles of Boerne; grandchildren Christopher Martin and wife Stephanie of Blanco; Nora and husband Cooper Henry of Fort Hood; Olin Cowles of Boerne; Isa Perez-Marty of Austin; and Manu Perez-Marty of Austin; and brother Gary Cowles and wife Joyce of Albuquerque.

He is preceded in death by his parents Foy and Winnie Cowles, brother Mike Cowles, and son Landon Cowles.

Larry’s kindness and warmth could make anyone he was talking to feel like they were so special and loved. His smile and laughter brought joy of all around him.
