Susan 'Susy' Richardson Murrah
Susan 'Susy' Richardson Murrah

She was born on February 26, 1945 in Tawas City, Michigan to Ard Ezra Richardson Jr. and Mildred Pearl Quick Richardson in her childhood home. Susy had her first plane ride at 6 weeks old, when her Godfather flew her and her mother to Clovis, New Mexico to meet her father, who was serving in the Army Air Corps. At the age of 5, her father bought a ranch outside of La Coste, Texas, where the family would spend six months of the year, while spending the other six months in Michigan.
Susy became a boarder at St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio in the third grade and graduated high school in 1963 from Radford School in El Paso, before attending Trinity University. In 1967, she made her debut as “Duchess of Romantic Mariachis” for Fiesta in San Antonio.
For many years, Susy traveled all over the United States rodeoing. During this time, she made many lifelong friends. She bought the ranch in Blanco in 1970, where she raised horses, cattle and goats.
Susy married Tom Murrah on July 5, 1990 in Idaho surrounded by their close friends. They were happily married for 35 years, together for 41 incredible years in total.
Susy loved to travel, especially going back to Michigan every summer to her family’s cottage. She traveled all over with close friends, from New York to California and everywhere in between, even overseas, to cruise through parts of Europe. Susy also enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers. She definitely had a green thumb.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Murrah; brother-in-law, Dan Murrah (Marcella); sister-in-law, Nancy Murrah Arnold; nephews, Robert Richardson (Crissie), Matt Murrah (Karen) and Wesley Murrah; great nieces and nephews, Molly Murrah-Weinman (Vivian), Daniel Murrah, Caleb Murrah, Clayton Murrah and Mae Murrah; Brandon Harber (Shalie); and beloved grandson, Tom Wayne Harber.
