GREGORY ‘GREG’ LEE ASHBY (1947-2025)

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold ”Jim” Lee Ashby and Mary “Libby” Elizabeth Connell and James LaVoy Connell.
He is survived by his wife Karen Mallet Ashby, daughter Valeri Bobbitt, DVM, son John Ashby (and wife Laquetta), grandson Justin Ashby (and wife Elizabeth), and great-grandchildren Dakota, Hunter and Harper. Survivors also include brother Craig Ashby (and wife Deborah) of Eden, Texas, and sister Jimmye Bedford, brother Joe Mac Connell, sister Kim Connell Nunez (and husband Danny), and sister Karen Connell Henson (and husband Milton). He is also survived by beloved aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Greg’s career started at 9 years old waiting on customers at his family’s meat market in Temple. Over his lifetime, he had many jobs – butcher at Piggly Wiggly, fireman at Temple Fire Department, police officer at Temple Police Department, electronic repairs, plant manager, installing phone systems in Houston high rises, rig engineer at Chiles Drilling and Huthnance Drilling, and 25 years as a manager at Motorola. After retiring, Greg started Ashby Construction.
Greg was an active participant in the Emmaus Community and volunteered and led many walks. He was also active on the district board for the Rio Texas Division.
Greg loved spending time with family and friends. He loved traveling, fishing, hunting, dancing, barbecuing, skiing and motorcycle riding. He also spent many hours watching the animals at his ranch.
Greg was so full of life that there will be two celebrations of life – Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at Blanco Methodist Church and Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at Oak Park United Methodist Church in Temple, Texas. All are invited.
