It is with both great sadness and great joy that we announce the passing of John Jacob Steinpreis, age 82, of Perryton, Texas, who died on August 26, 2025 at Thomas E. Creek VA Community Living Center in the company of his two children. He was a devoted husband and loving father known for his faith and dedication to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on November 9, 1942, in Follett, Texas, to Henry H. Steinpreis and Natalia Born Steinpreis, John grew up in Follett, served in the Army, attended St. John’s College, and West Texas State in Canyon, Texas where he earned his degree in Business Management.

It was during his time at West Texas that he met the love of his life, Sally Jo Crouser. The two were married in June of 1970 and spent 48 years together before her death in 2018.

John was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He remained active in the church and was a faithful servant to his Lord until his passing. John was known for singing hymns and for his love of church music.

John grew up learning mechanics and had a long career as a Parts and Service Manager for both Chevrolet (at Ratliff’s Chevrolet in Llano, TX for 20+ years) and Ford Motor Company (at Hergert Ford in Perryton, TX for 15+ years).

John is survived by his children, David Karl Steinpreis of Perryton, Texas, and Deborah Kathryn Mitchell and husband Travis Kelvin Mitchell of Lubbock, Texas, and his only grandchild, Hadley Kathryn Mitchell, of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sally Jo Steinpreis; and his siblings Ruben Steinpreis and Katherina Steinpreis Harmon.

A memorial service will be held on September 6, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Perryton.
