Joan Eckert Low

Joan Eckert Low

Joan Eckert Low went to meet her savior in heaven last Friday, passing peacefully at home at the age of 77. Born September 9, 1947, to Marvin Edmund Eckert and Bonnie Mae Rolston Eckert of Mason, Texas, Joan was a sister to M.E. “Buddy” Eckert, Bonita Laverine Eckert Davis, and Donald Ray Eckert.

After growing up in Mason, Joan married Ronald Low of Menard and moved to Odessa where she raised four children, including with Ronald and later with her second husband, Carl Miller. Known for her dedication and determination, Joan provided for her children by often working multiple jobs, putting herself through college, and ultimately building a successful insurance agency.

After her children graduated high school, Joan relocated to Austin, where she fell in love with the greenery and vibrant spirit of the city and became a published author. She lived there for many years before moving to Hico to be closer to her daughter Kim.

Family was the heart of Joan’s life. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, offering them constant encouragement and unconditional love. Joan’s love also stemmed from her devout faith in Jesus, and she practiced his teachings by caring for anyone who needed her. Joan’s kindness and wisdom touched so many and she is greatly missed.

Joan is survived by her sons Justin (Esther) Low, and Ronald Casey (Kristen) Low, her daughters Kimberly Hughes and Shannon Ashley (Zack) Phillips, her brother Donald (Minnie) Eckert, seven grandchildren Randi Thompson, Sarah Solis, Trinity Phillips, Samantha Low, Jacob Phillips, Annabelle Low, and Emerson Low and two great-grandchildren Rylan and Asher.

Visitation with the family was held on Friday, August 22, at Mason Funeral Home. A celebration of Joan’s life was held at Mason Funeral Home in Mason, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services followed at the Jacoby family cemetery near Hext.
