Dorothy Jean (Low) Polk

Dorothy Jean (Low) Polk

Dorothy Jean (Low) Polk, age 83 of Granbury, passed away at her home Tuesday, July 29, 2025. She was born at her grandmother’s house on July 23, 1942, in Gonzales, Texas. She graduated from Wealder High School in 1960. Dorothy then attended beauty school in Austin and graduated as a licensed cosmetologist.

While attending beauty school, she met her husband Ted Polk of Mason. They married on May 20, 1961. They lived all of their married life in Mason, except for a few years when they moved to Burnet, and ran the Burnet County Bulletin. After Ted’s death, Dorothy moved to Granbury to be closer to family.

Ted and Dorothy also purchased and operated Dot’s Variety Store in Mason. Dorothy served as president of the Mason Chamber of Commerce, worked as a beauty operator with her mother-in-law, and worked at the Mason County News. She was a member of Mason First Baptist Church.

Dorothy loved spending time with family, and when they all got together, whether it be in her younger years, or her adult ones, a good time was to be had, and there was definitely never a shortage of food.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Ted Polk, parents Gene and Lunetta Low, and her brother Junus Low.

Survived by her daughter Connie (Mike) Monts, of Granbury, son Jerald “Jerry” Polk of London, KY; Sisters Betty Vaughan, Patricia (Jay) Edmiston, and Phyllis Low all of Gonzales. Grandchildren: Chad (Amanda) Roberts, Courtney (Bo) Hatfield, and Mason Polk. Step grandchildren Shannon Smith and Sean Monts, seven great grandchildren and one greatgreat grandchild. She is also survived by a host of cousins, family and friends.

A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 02, 2025, at the Gooch Cemetery.
