This summer, music lovers have twice the reason to celebrate as Blanco Performing Arts hosts not one, but two free concerts on the square in — an open-air brass celebration and an elegant evening of classical music.
The festivities kick off on Saturday, June 28, in the shady Uptown Blanco Courtyard, where the U.S. Air Force Band of the West’s Freedom Brass returns by popular demand. Their 2023 performance drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, and this year’s concert promises even more patriotic flair and brass band favorites. It’s a perfect way to celebrate summer—just bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket, sit back, and enjoy an unforgettable evening of classic Americana under the Texas sky. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Then, on Friday, July 11, Blanco audiences are invited indoors to the elegant Uptown Blanco Ballroom for a rare treat: the first-ever free classical concert in Blanco Performing Arts’ 15-season history. This concert launches the Cactus Pear Music Festival’s 29th season, a festival renowned in San Antonio for its passionate performances and stellar musicianship.
Headlining the evening is Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio, former concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony, joined by celebrated cellist Jonah Kim — called “the next Yo-Yo Ma” by The Washington Post — and acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Sykes. Their program features masterworks by Beethoven and Schubert, promising a night of soaring melodies and rich musical storytelling.
Make it a full evening to remember with a special prix fixe dinner at the Uptown Blanco Restaurant, offered exclusively before the July 11 concert. The pre fixe dinner is to be reserved directly with Uptown Blanco Restaurant. The price is $48, but does not include a beverage. Enjoy a thoughtfully curated meal before walking just steps to your seat for an unforgettable night of music.
Whether you’re drawn to the bold sound of brass or the intimacy of chamber music, Blanco Performing Arts offers something for everyone this summer— and both concerts are absolutely free.
