What to Do if Your Pet Is Bitten by a Rattlesnake

It was a Saturday afternoon in April this year. Kyle Hammond was working in the backyard of his new home in The Trails of Horseshoe Bay. His faithful companion Rip was sunning himself in the grass not far away when Kyle heard Rip yelp. He thought nothing of it until Rip came running up licking his paw.

“When I looked back to where Rip came from there was a two-and-a-half-foot rattler coiled.” It did not take Kyle long to dispatch the rattler with a golf club and butcher knife. That is not a recommended solution for everyone, but as Kyle explained, “I grew up in West Texas which means I grew up around snakes.”

He elaborated, “The way I grew up north of Abilene, we just did not take a pet to the vet. Every dog got bitten sometime and they just got over it.” But this was different.
