It took less than two hours for a local jury to convict a man of the capital murder of a 77-year-old Blanco County man.
Mark Skladany, 33, of New Jersey was convicted of killing John Wayne Jones during an attempted burglary in Blanco County on Dec. 12, 2022. A jury was selected to hear the case on April 28, in the 424th Judicial District Court. The 2-week trial ended with a verdict of guilty of capital murder, which is automatically punishable by a term of life in prison when the state does not seek the death penalty.
Skladany was sentenced on May 7, according to criminal conviction records from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
