At their regular meeting Monday, Mason’s County Commissioners approved departmental reports and two proclamations.
Representatives from the Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities (HCMHDD) asked the Court for May to be deemed Mental Health Awareness Month in Mason County. Kelsi Wilmot, Director of Community Relations for the HCMHDD, told the Court that half of the population will experience one mental health challenge in their lifetime, and that one in six adults in Texas will be affected by mental issues. The HCMHDD, which has headquarters in Kerrville, was started in 1997 and serves 816,000 people in a 714 square mile area, which includes Mason County.
Commissioners also approved a request by Mikki Hand, Executive Director of the Frontera Clinic in Mason, to support the 340B Program, a federal program started in 1992 that requires the pharmaceutical industry to give a portion of their profits back to small clinics and pharmacies to make prescriptions more affordable for their patients.
