The Mason High School Academic Team won the 2A-29 District Championship held last week here in Mason. The end result was one of MHS’s better recent performances, with the team posting 741 points to San Saba’s 374. Thirty students will be advancing to compete at the Regional Championship in Corpus Christi on April 25-26.
Many people contributed to the meet’s success. The three campuses of Mason ISD combined to host guests from the other schools and to run an efficient meet.
And the Academic Team could have none of its success without the team sponsors who find time outside of the school day to coach these events. Leslie Cope sponsors Mathematics; Whitney Pilgrim sponsors Number Sense and Accounting; Kelli Cope sponsors Calculator Applications; Amanda Cawley sponsors Feature Writing, News Writing, Copy Editing, Editorial Writing, and Spelling; Kasey Immel coaches Headline Writing; Justin McFarland sponsors Prose Interpretation and Ready Writing; Bobby Halamicek sponsors Extem- Additionally, the team received additional support from Laura Tallent and Merlina Gamel who volunteered their time to listen to speakers.
