The Blanco City Council canceled the May election at its March 3 meeting after only three candidates filed for three council seats.
The new council members will be sworn in at the May meeting. Ryan Moses will be sworn in for a second full term, while Matt Herden and Bill Depew will be sworn in for their first terms. Moses spent was elected to the council in 2023, but narrowly lost his re-election bid in 2025. However, he was appointed to fill the final year of term vacated by Candy Cargill after she was elected mayor.
The council tabled a decision on whether to hold a special election pertaining to the repeal and reuse of the local sales and use tax until the March 17 meeting. Council members directed city staff to research the potential cost to hold the election “in house” with the city being responsible for a single issue vote on the sales tax measure.
