At their regular meeting February 25, the Mason Independent School District (MISD) board held a public hearing on the Mason ISD Texas Academic Performance Report in which the district received an “A” rating.
“You want kids to grow from the beginning of the year to the end of the year,” said Superintendent Sean Leamon. The district showed gains especially in math, in all grades, the Superintendent said. Some needs in science were identified. The district’s success in exiting students from the “emergent bilingual” or EB program actually hurt the district’s ratings in that area, he said. One source defined emergent bilinguals as “students who are continuing to develop their home language while also learning an additional language.”
In his report, Superintendent Leamon announced that there will be a Town Hall meeting March 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium to discuss the needs of the facility and the upcoming bond election. The meeting will be preceded by a walkthrough of the high school, so everyone can get a first-hand look at the condition of the school.
