At the recent Tuesday City Council meeting Mayor Fisher issued a Proclamation declaring Feb. 22 as George Washington Day for the city on behalf of the Sons of the American Revolution.

President George Washington was remembered at his funeral in December of 1779 by General Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee, (Father of Civil War General Robert E. Lee) who eulogized General and Twice President Washington as first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”

In 2026, it is our duty to ensure that honorific remains as true as when it was first spoken.
