Johnson City athletics will face new schools after UIL realignment

Johnson City football and basketball will find themselves competing against a new slate of schools starting next season following the University Interscholastic League’s realignment.

Both sports will see a significant increase in mileage traveled on Johnson City buses, but at a competitive level, Johnson City will likely see closer district chases on a year to year basis, allowing for a more diverse playoff field.

Volleyball remains in District 29, which is unchanged following the UIL realignment. Baseball and tennis are also subject to the new districts, but they will not be finalized until April.
