Johnson City lost to Harper 72-34 on Feb. 3, its main rival in the playoff race, but bounced back with a 45-36 win over Mason last Friday.
Despite being eliminated from the playoff chase, head coach Rich Powers reflected on what he saw out of team as it put together an upset win over second-place Mason (6-3) “It’s kind of what I envisioned for this team,” Powers said. “I was hoping to get there earlier, but I’ll take it later than never. I thought the boys’ intensity was unbelievable.”
Johnson City, while not mathematically eliminated from fourth place in the district, is schedule eliminated from the playoffs due to Junction and Harper having a pending matchup. One of those teams will finish at least third in the district, and both own the tiebreaker over the Eagles for a theoretical fourth place finish.
