County Treasurer Submits Resignation; No Action Taken By Commissioners

County Treasurer Submits Resignation; No Action Taken By Commissioners

On Monday, Mason’s County Commissioners completed a long agenda at their regular meeting and spent considerable time in executive session, discussing personnel matters.

The court took no action on the letter of resignation submitted by County Treasurer Ally Yonker. Commissioners went into executive session to discuss personnel matters at 11:16 a.m., not returning until 1:27 p.m. to address the agenda item concerning the resignation letter from Treasurer Yonker. No motion was made to accept the resignation, causing the Court to take no action. The next agenda item, approving to advertise for the appointment of a Mason County Treasurer to finish Yonker’s unexpired term, also received no action. Commissioners returned to executive session at 1:36pm. No public comment was made on the matter.

Commissioners completed a full agenda prior to addressing the personnel issues, including hearing the audit report for 2024. Keith Neffendorf of Neffendorf and Blocker, PC, of Fredericksburg presented the 2024 audit for Mason County. Neffendorf told commissioners that Mason “is one of the few counties that has no debt. You were able to build a $20 million dollar structure (the Courthouse) with no debt,” he said. He pronounced the audit an “unqualified opinion,” which is “the best you can get.” With total assets of over $37 million, Neffendorf said, “The county is still in good financial shape.”
