BS&W receives $1M rural healthcare grant

BS&W receives $1M rural healthcare grant
A room full of grateful Baylor Scott & White employees celebrated the presentation of a facsimile check for $1,040,000 from the USDA Rural Development Communities Assistance Grant. It was presented to the hospital by US Congressman John Carter (center in hat).

U.S. Congressman John Carter was on hand at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Marble Falls last Friday to present a check for just over $1 million to purchase a state-of-the-art CT scanner.

Following introductory comments of gratitude to Rep. Carter by BS&W President Tim Ols and Marble Falls Mayor John Packer, Carter replied, “This is really a spectacular place to live. My wife and I considered moving out here many years ago and the reason we did not was because we worried about healthcare. We must never forget the importance of rural healthcare.” Carter represents the 31st Congressional District of Texas, which currently includes Williamson and Bell counties, and since 2022, Burnet County.

The $1 million Rural Development Communities Assistance Grant is provided through the US Department of Agriculture. The grant award was added to $2.686 million provided by BS&W to make possible the purchase of the CT scanner. The existing scanner is now 10 years old but still in service. The two scanners together will make it possible to respond immediately to emergencies without interruption of scheduled scans.
