The Blanco City Council discussed raising utility rates at a workshop and special city council meeting Jan. 27.
Utility rates were last increased in 2023, City Administrator Warren Escovy presented the current shortfalls in the rainy day funds for both the city’s enterprise and general fund. He also talked about the projected increases in the operations budget and an increase in price from Texas Water Company, which supplies water to the city.
The workshop covered different solutions, which could include a 5% increase across the board, increasing rates for users outside the city or moving the debt service of bonds and certificates of obligation from the interest and sinking to the enterprise fund. No action was taken and the discussion is expected to continue at the Feb. 10 council meeting.
