County Deliberates On Roof Repairs to Three Buildings

At the January 27 meeting of the Mason County Commissioner’s Court, a substantial amount of time was spent deciding how to proceed with roof repairs to three county buildings.

Commissioners approved quotes to replace the roofs on the County Clerk’s building and the Law Enforcement building, but are waiting for more quotes on the library roof, pending determination of hail damage. Nixon Roofing of Fredericksburg will replace the roof on the Clerk’s building with a standing seam roof, matching the courthouse roof color, for $25,993. A-lert Roof Systems of New Braunfels won the bid to replace the Law Enforcement roof with a roof over for a cost of $78,440. The associated HVAC work on the building will be done by another contractor, yet to be determined.

Commissioners approved a request by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to plant a pecan tree on the courthouse lawn, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, as well as the 175th anniversary of Fort Mason. DAR representatives Christi McAlister and Mary Carlman addressed the Court with their requests for a dedication ceremony on the afternoon of July 4, 2026, with patriotic-themed refreshments planned.
