After months of dry weather, Llano County finally saw measurable rainfall last Friday - served on the rocks with a twist.
Throughout the week of January 19, meteorologists warned that a significant winter storm would creep into the region over the weekend, bringing a rare combination of prolonged precipitation and freezing temperatures. By Friday, January 23, those forecasts began to materialize into Winter Storm Fern.
Light rain started falling around 11:00 a.m. Friday and continued steadily throughout the day and into the night, soaking roads, sidewalks and yards. Around midnight, rainfall totals jumped sharply from 0.21 inches to 0.87 inches, according to Lower Colorado River Authority data - just as temperatures plunged well below freezing.
