Llano County Burn Ban Remains On, Temporary Lift Approved Through Feb. 1

Llano County Burn Ban Remains On, Temporary Lift Approved Through Feb. 1

The Llano County Commissioners Court convened Tuesday morning after its regular Monday meeting was postponed due to the winter ice storm. Under the Texas Open Meetings Act, the court was able to meet within 72 hours without reposting the agenda. Llano County offices were closed to non-essential operations on Monday and reopened on a regular schedule Tuesday.

Judge Ron Cunningham introduced Paul Whitmore, an Air Force veteran who began work December 8 as Llano County’s new Veterans Service Officer. Whitmore assists veterans with paperwork, appointments, disability claims and other needs, and is currently building a client database for the department.

The court left the countywide burn ban in place, tabling any action to lift it. While a temporary 72-hour lift was discussed following the recent precipitation, commissioners noted the limited window for safe burning and that all surrounding counties remain under burn bans. On Thursday, Judge Cunningham put a temporary lift on the burn ban, which will extend through Sunday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m.
