TPWD Seeks Public Input on New Post Oak Ridge State Park Development

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is inviting the public to help shape the future of Post Oak Ridge State Park, a new 3,000-plus-acre park planned along the Colorado River in Burnet and Lampasas counties.

The rugged and ecologically diverse property will be one of the first new state parks developed using funding from the $1 billion Centennial Parks Conservation Fund. According to TPWD policy, newly acquired parklands must open for limited public use within 18 months and fully open within 48 months, prompting early planning efforts now underway.

TPWD is currently developing a Public Use Plan for Post Oak Ridge State Park, which will guide how the land is developed and managed while balancing conservation with public access. The plan will address a wide range of topics, including day-use recreation and overnight stays, trails and scenic areas, protection of native wildlife and sensitive habitats, cultural and historical interpretation, park operations and infrastructure, visitation levels and road access, and potential economic benefits for surrounding communities.
