Handwritten deed books worn by decades of daily use and a cigar box that once quietly held a complete 1909 election are now at the center of major preservation efforts underway in Llano County.
County officials are working to protect some of the county’s oldest historical records while simultaneously making them more accessible to the public through expanded digitization projects and a new, more user-friendly online records system.
At the Llano County Clerk’s Office, rows of original deed books dating back to the late 1800s document the transfer of land ownership across generations. County Clerk Cecilia McClintock said the books show clear signs of heavy use from a time before digital records, when residents and title researchers relied on them daily.
