The Mason Independent School District (MISD) board approved last year’s financial audit and approved funds for construction purposes, in addition to hearing the Superintendent’s report, at Monday night’s meeting.
A “clean audit” for the MISD in 2024-25 was reported by Coleman Horton & Co., of Uvalde. The district ended the year with excess funds, said Lauren Simmons, Business/Payroll manager for the MISD. The audit report was approved 6-0.
The district will use up to $185,000 from its maintenance account to pay for re-pairs to school parking lots from damage sustained in the July 4th flooding, as well as tree trimming, and cafeteria repairs. FEMA will reimburse a percentage (75%) of the majority of these repairs to the district, approximately $110,000. This will allow the district to pay local contractors immediately, and not have to wait on FEMA funds, said Superintendent Sean Leamon. Leamon and Business Manager Simmons have been meeting with FEMA weekly for months, and now feel they are “at the finish line.”
