The Mason High School girls basketball team added two more non-district victories to push its record to 18-1 in a season that is about 35 days old.

The Cowgirls, who are ranked No. 3 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 2A poll, defeated Irion County 53-40 December 12 and Austin Royals 49-30 December 9. The Mason junior varsity also added those victories to its win total, too.

“These kids have had a great preseason,” head coach Alicia Cummings said. “They’ve been working hard since the summer. We expected to be a good basketball team. We have experience, we brought a lot of kids back, and so I have really been proud of the way our kids have handled this road stretch. We haven’t played at home since November 25. I have been super proud of just the toughness and the mental fortitude and grit to be able to do that.”
