Punchers’ Teamwork Leads to Bi-District Title
The Mason Punchers celebrate winning a Class 2A Division I Bi-District title after thumping Marlin 61-15 November 13 to eliminate the same opponent that ended their season in 2024. The Punchers did it behind a strong passing attack that generated 230 of their 445 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, the Punchers’ defense allowed only 155 yards of total offense in leaving no doubt about this championship. Next up are the Schulenburg Shorthorns, who eliminated Freer 56-35 November 13. The Mason High School football team wasted no time in dismissing the Marlin Bulldogs from the Class 2A Division I playoffs thanks to a decisive 61-15 victory November 13 in Pflugerville.

With the win, the Punchers (8-3, 5-0 District 14-2A Division I champion) added another bi-district title to their illustrious trophy cabinet. “I thought we started a little bit slower than I had hoped we would, but I thought our guys played well when we finally settled in,” said head coach Wade Griffin, who is in his first year as the Punchers skipper. He noted Marlin “took chances” throughout the After Mason forced a turnover on downs, sophomore quarterback Ryder Balmos and company took over at the Bulldogs’ 40-yard line. On the seventh play of the drive, Balmos hit senior running back Clancy Osbourn on a swing pass for the 25-yard touchdown. The extra point was missed, but Mason led 6-0.

The Bulldogs (2-9, 2-0 District 13-2A Division I fourth place) got a 14-yard run by junior athlete De’Angelo Wright and another first down on an eight-yard pass. A defensive pass interference call moved the ball to the Mason 36-yard line. But a sack by junior lineman Cass Burch, sophomore lineman Patrick Van Delist and senior linebacker Christian Gammill resulted in an eight-yard loss and another turnover on downs.
