The Mason City Commission carried on with regular business Monday night, despite officially accepting the resignation of Mayor Robert Rayburn and longtime City Secretary Pattie Allen.
City Administrator Amanda Hill also confirmed, after the meeting, that she would be resigning as well, effective sometime in December.
As Commissioner Michael Keller tendered his letter of resignation at Friday night’s meeting, the Commission now consists of Mayor Pro Tem William Beaty, and Commissioners Annette Thomas and David Hyden. A special election, which must be ordered by the County Judge, will be required to elect a new mayor and an additional commissioner, Hill said. As this is a very unusual situation, state officials are being consulted on how and when the election should take place.
