Cascade of Resignations in Mason City Government

Leadership of Mason City government has undergone some rapid changes over the past few weeks. Last week, Mayor Robert Rayburn and Commissioner Michael Keller both resigned. The City Commission voted Monday, November 17, to approve Rayburn’s resignation. Keller’s will be moved to a later agenda because it was not received in time for the meeting.

The City Commission also approved the resignation of longstanding City Secretary Pattie Allen at the November 17 meeting. Per Texas law, the City cannot leave the position of City Secretary vacant. They must appoint an interim during the search for a replacement. In Monday’s meeting, the Commission added the duties of departing Pattie Allen to City Manager Amanda Hill’s plate by naming her Interim City Secretary while the interview and selection process for a replacement occurs.

To complicate the situation, the City Manager Amanda Hill has indicated that she will tender her resignation, pending approval at a future meeting.
