The Texas Hills Quilters - Quilts of Valor held their annual Veterans Day program Tuesday, November 11, at the JLK Event Center in Llano, recognizing 21 local veterans with handmade quilts as a gesture of appreciation for their service.

The event began at 10:30 a.m. with a stirring performance of patriotic tunes by the Llano Junior High School Band under the direction of Teresa Mazur. Llano County Judge Ron Cunningham served as master of ceremonies, and Weldon Farrar offered the opening prayer. The Presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance were led by members of American Legion Post 974 of Burnet, followed by the National Anthem sung by Llano High School’s Alexis Engleman.

Mayor Laura Almond welcomed attendees before Dr. Alice Smith and students from Llano Christian Academy presented the “White Table” ceremony - a moving tradition that dates back to the Vietnam War and symbolizes remembrance of prisoners of war and those missing in action. Each element of the small white table represents the sacrifice and hope tied to those who never returned home.
