Walnut Methodist Church began in 1855 at Francis and Nancy Smith’s home on the original Smith Ranch. The Smiths invited family, friends, and neighbors to hear the circuit rider preach, and the rest is history for the “little brown church in the vale.”
The Smith’s son and founding Trustee Joel Phillip Smith deeded the land in 1899 where the present-day church stands, and was one of five trustees who signed the deed in 1899.
The first circuit rider who preached from a log cabin porch began a history of pastors who have led Walnut Methodist Church through 170 years of faith.
