Johnson City lost to Mason on Oct. 31 45-13 as it fell to 1-3 in district play as the playoff race reaches its climax.

After a 16-6 Mason lead at halftime, neither team found the score sheet in the third quarter as fourth-place Johnson City hosted district- leading Mason. However, Mason’s offense exploded for 29 points in the fourth to take a much more decisive victory than the first 36 minutes would suggest. Despite the loss, head coach Brent Kornegay gave credit to his Johnson City team for staying in the game as long as it could.

“I think our kids played hard,” Kornegay said. “You got to give credit to our defensive coaches for the game plan that they came up with, but again, it goes back to our kids.”
