Fire crews continue to make progress on the Williams Road Fire, which has burned approximately 321.5 acres since igniting in the afternoon on Wednesday, Oct. 15. As of Thursday morning, the fire is 70% contained, according to a daily update from Burnet County officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews from the Texas A&M Forest Service, Burnet Volunteer Fire Department, and other local and state partners are operating under Unified Command. Firefighters returned to the scene early Thursday to ensure that all fire activity remains within the established perimeter and to target any remaining hot spots.
Using heavy equipment, engine crews, and aircraft, teams are focusing on extinguishing pockets of unburned fuel within the perimeter and working steadily to increase containment. A multi-mission aircraft was deployed to collect high-altitude imagery, helping crews identify and extinguish remaining heat sources.
