St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church held its fourth annual St. Michael’s celebration Sept. 29 to honor local first responders.
The event was held on the feast day of St. Michael the Archangel, who is the patron saint of warriors, which includes veterans and first responders. St. Michael is revered as a warrior angel credited with casting the Devil out of Heaven. His role as a protector and guardian of the people and the church makes him an ideal saint for first responders who care for others in times of danger.
The celebration of St. Michael’s feast day in Blanco included a short march of active and retired military, a parade of emergency response vehicles and a blessing of all the assembled with a specific emphasis on first responders, veterans and those in the armed forces. It also included the fun run, both a 1K and 5K, plus hot dogs, cookies and chips provided for all attendees.
