The devastation the July 2025 floods brought to Burnet County are slowly beginning to heal. Burnet County had over 450 homes with either minor or major damage and some destroyed, but thanks to significant donations from the Capital Area Housing Finance Corporation (CAHFC), those individuals that experienced damage to their homes from the flooding may soon be getting some relief.

CAHFC board members from the counties of Burnet, Caldwell, Bastrop, and Blanco have each applied for and received individual $100,000 checks made out to the Ark of the Highland Lakes. The Ark of the Highland Lakes is a local non-profit organization created after the major flooding in the Highland Lakes in 2018. The Ark provides support to those affected by the flooding and with these dedicated “housing” funds can work to make residents whole again.

The CAHFC Disaster Fund was born from the Bastrop County wildfires of 2011. In that year, the CAHFC created the Disaster Fund and donated $300,000 to the County of Bastrop. In 2025, the disaster event was flooding in Burnet County, and the board members elected to make a total of $400,000 donation to the Ark of the Highland Lakes specifically to assist with housing needs. These funds may be used to purchase replacement RVs, to rebuild homes, or to provide temporary housing to those in need. This is the largest Disaster donation the CAHFC has ever made.
