‘Raise the Roof’ at Twin Sisters this Weekend
Bobby Mack and Zydeco Blanco formed a Blanco supergroup and jammed on Saturday afternoon for attendees last year at the Twin Sisters Dance Hall Raise the Roof fundraiser. They’ll play at 4 p.m. Saturday at this year’s fundraiser and are among musical acts that will entertain the crowd starting at 11 a.m. that day. There’s a dance both Friday and Saturday nights. Twin Sisters’ annual “Raise the Roof” fundraiser will be held Friday and Saturday at the site of the historic dance hall.

This year’s event will promote the hall’s ongoing effort to replace the windows. People can sponsor a window and have a plaque with their name under the window they “adopt.” Each window can cost between $3,0005,000 with the total project expected to cost between $150,000-250,000. The Texas Historic Commission is involved in the project and advising the hall on how to replace the windows in a historically appropriate way. In the last year, Twin Sisters had some substantial expenses, including over $11,000 in electrical work and an insurance payment that was $20,000.

Twin Sisters dates to the mid-1880s and is one of the oldest operating dance halls in Texas. A German immigrant named Max Krueger settled in the community, which consisted of mostly large farms and ranches.
