A helipad has opened, and it already is getting good use by first responders in Blanco.
“Our initial test flight at the new Blanco Helipad occurred on Aug. 20,” said Chief Ben Oakley with Blanco County’s Emergency Services District #2, who answered questions for the News this week, along with other officials, in an email. “We’ve been working on the concept of a new helipad here for more than two years. The project at this location--Security State Bank (and Trust) --really kicked off in summer of last year, around the time the initial survey work was done. The helipad is officially open and will be used immediately. Fire/EMS can utilize the pad with any air medical provider, but it will primarily be used with Travis County STAR Flight. The pad is located behind the bank near the intersection of U.S. 281 and Blanco Avenue.”
The locale, near the district’s ambulance and fire headquarters, is important.
