Johnson City lost to Granger, 49-34, on Friday to begin the 2025 season.
The Eagles kept pace with Granger during the first half, with only three points separating the two teams at halftime. However, Granger pulled away in the third quarter and kept the pressure on to come out on top of an offensive shootout. For head coach Brent Kornegay, in his first game as head coach of Johnson City, there was plenty to be proud of despite the loss.
“Our kids kept fighting. We scored 34 points in the first game,” Kornegay said. “It’s going to take some time, but we’re going to be all right.”
