The Blanco Independent School District board of trustees approved the school district’s tax rate at their Aug. 18 meeting.
Superintendent Clay Rosenbaum’s report touched on the changes to the student handbook, which included the requirement that teachers provide a copy of the instructional plan or course syllabus for parents each semester. Other changes are that fifth grade students scoring in the top 60 percent on the STARR test will be enrolled in sixth grade advanced math classes and that parents “may review their child’s records relating to school library materials.” Changes to the cell phone policy and dress code were previously addressed and approved.
Campus principals reported that cell phone incidents on their campuses have been rare, and students are more engaged in social interactions, including learning new games like Uno, Texas Hold ‘Em (sans gambling) and others. They also reported that parents have been supportive of the policy when they have been contacted about a phone issue.
