Nominations for the 2025 Citizen of the Year Award are open. This cherished recognition is presented each year by the HSB Business Alliance to the individual who best represents the qualities most admired and respected among our friends, neighbors, and associates. The award was begun in 2017 when city council member Reagan Lambert suggested the award to the city council.

“While with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), I began an annual ‘Coach and Athlete’ of the year award for our Austin/Central Texas area. I brought up Citizen of the Year as something the city could do to recognize volunteers who go above and beyond,” Lambert said. “At the time, the Business Alliance was getting started, and the decision was made to ask them to consider it. I made a presentation, and they decided to take it on. We developed the criteria using what I had developed for FCA as a guide. Then I was privileged to chair the first several committees that reviewed nominees and selected the recipient.”

As HSBBA Founder Mike Brittain describes one of the important qualifications of nominees, “The Citizen of the Year Award is not given for an outstanding single effort, but for a long-term continuing commitment to the community.”
