Mason Deals with Sewer Issues, Continues Infrastructure Talks

City Commissioners met twice in the last ten days, first for a special meeting called to deal with repairing sewer issues and the second a regular meeting with a full agenda.

On August 14, Commissioners tabled taking any action on a sewer leak on the Pecan Street property belonging to William and Patricia Beaty, pending further legal guidance concerning a utility easement on the property. Beaty, who is also a City Commissioner, recused himself from the meeting before any discussion began.

On the Pecan Street property, three manholes were identified as leaking sewage. City employees performed emergency measures, and City Administrator Amanda Hill got quotes for the necessary repairs from both an engineering firm and a contractor. The issue was muddied when questions arose about the existence or location of a utility easement on the property.
