Commissioners Make Changes to Hog Bounty Program

In a recent meeting, Blanco County Commissioners revamped the county's hog bounty program, now limiting participation to residents and extending the program's duration to eight months. With feral hogs damaging local properties, these strategic changes aim to enhance management efforts and protect community interests.
Commissioners Make Changes to Hog Bounty Program

The Blanco County Commissioners made small changes to the county’s hog bounty program at their Aug. 12 meeting.

Carley Howell, county extension agent with Texas A&M AgriLife, reported there were 36 participants in the program this year and five of those participants reached the 59-tail limit.

A survey was completed by 11 of 36 respondents at the end of the season. Those who responded said more than 18,000 acres of Blanco County were included in the program, and 22 percent of those properties were affected by wild hogs. A total of 998 feral hogs were harvested through the program this year.
