The Blanco-Pedernales Groundwater Conservation District held a public hearing on the Hye Development permit request at its Aug. 14 meeting.

James McGarr of Hye Development provided a summary of the permit request. He said they had lost a well and tried to replace it with one nearby, but the replacement did not produce sufficient water. After that, they drilled a third well to replace the lost well. McGarr said the new well is in a better and more central location with less impact on adjacent neighbors.

Director James Sultemeier of Precinct 2 1inquired about the status of capping the abandoned wells. McGarr said that one well has a big cap, and the second one would be capped lower so it could be cut and sealed from the production zone to the surface.
