Mason County States Case for Relief Funding from State

On Monday, County Judge Sheree Hardin told the Commissioners Court that she felt that the needs of Mason County were “heard” by legislators at a hearing in Kerrville last week.

Judge Hardin, along with the judges from four neighboring counties, testified at a legislative hearing in Kerrville last Thursday about damage from the July floods in the Hill Country. Hardin, representing Mason County, was joined by the judges from Tom Green, McCulloch, San Saba and Menard counties, all who brought the reports of the damage in their counties.

Unlike our neighboring counties, most of Mason’s damage occurred as a result of flash flooding, not river flooding, said Judge Hardin. The other four counties suffered much more damage to primary residences due to river flooding, she said. The counties conveyed their requests to legislators for help with a relief fund from the state, a request she felt that resonated with legislators. “I feel like they understand there is a legislative need for relief funding, “ Judge Hardin said. “We have applied for public assistance. It’s not approved yet. We are still moving through the process with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),” she said.
